There are beautiful places in Japan that you will not always find in the usual travel guides.
One of them is Inari Rural Park, also known as Taiyo no Hiroba, in Saku City, Nagano Prefecture.
This quiet park is a wonderful place to discover the natural beauty of the Japanese countryside. When I visited on a clear day, the views were especially impressive. Mount Asama stood clearly to the north, while the mountains in the opposite direction included the Yatsugatake range and the Southern Alps.
It is a peaceful place where wide-open landscapes and a sense of mystery come together.
Mount Asama in the Northern Sky
One of the first things that caught my attention was the view of Mount Asama.

On the day I filmed this video, the weather was beautiful, and the mountain could be seen clearly against the blue sky. Mount Asama is of the most recognizable features of this part of Nagano, and seeing it from the open countryside around Saku gives it a different kind of beauty from the views found in the forested resort areas of Karuizawa.
The landscape feels spacious and calm. It is the kind of place where you can pause, look toward the mountains, and enjoy a quieter side of Japan.
A Small Inari Shrine with a Mysterious Atmosphere
Inside the park, there is also an Inari shrine.

Inari shrines are found throughout Japan and are traditionally associated with Inari, a deity connected with rice, agriculture, prosperity, and other aspects of daily life. The exact traditions and history of each shrine can differ.
Here, the presence of the shrine adds another dimension to the park. Alongside the open fields and mountain views, there is a quiet, spiritual atmosphere that invites you to stop and take a closer look.
For me, this contrast between nature and the sacred space is part of what makes the park special.

Looking the Other Way: Yatsugatake and the Southern Alps
The scenery changes when you turn away from Mount Asama.
From the opposite side of the park, you can see the Yatsugatake mountains and the Southern Alps on a clear day. It is wonderful to find such a broad mountain panorama in a relatively quiet rural setting.
Rather than being a large, famous tourist attraction, this park offers something simpler: beautiful views, open space, and a chance to appreciate the landscape at your own pace.
A Local Place to Enjoy Mallet Golf
The park also has a mallet golf area, adding a recreational element to the peaceful surroundings.

Mallet golf is a popular outdoor activity in Nagano, enjoyed by people of different ages. It is played with a mallet and ball on a course, making it an accessible way to spend time outdoors.
This combination of mountain scenery, a small shrine, open fields, and recreation makes the park feel like a local secret worth discovering.
A Sea of Yellow Flowers in Spring
One of the most beautiful seasonal features is the yellow rapeseed blossoms around the fields near the park.
From late April to mid-May, the surrounding farmland can be covered in vivid yellow flowers, creating a striking contrast with the blue sky and distant mountains.
Flowering times depend on the weather and the conditions each year, so the exact timing can vary. If you visit during this period, you may be able to enjoy a wonderful spring landscape that feels far removed from Japan's busy tourist destinations.
It is also a reminder that some of the most memorable travel experiences happen in ordinary rural places, away from the crowds.

Discover the Quiet Side of Saku
Saku City is known for its convenient Shinkansen access to Tokyo, its commercial facilities, and its beautiful views of Mount Asama. But there is another side to the city: quiet parks, traditional shrines, farmland, and local landscapes that change with the seasons.
Inari Rural Park, or Taiyo no Hiroba, brings these elements together in place.
If you visit Saku or explore the area around Karuizawa, consider taking time to discover places like this. You may find a different kind of beauty in Japan — that is peaceful, local, and closely connected to the land.
